“There are two means of refuge from the misery of life — music and cats.”
― Albert Schweitzer
- How it started
- Everyone who knows me, knows that I love cats. Apparently, Instagram knows it too, for it often shows me funny cat compilations and cat art in their feed. One afternoon, as I was flicking through the various cat portraits, I had a realisation -- there was not a single image I liked.
The internet is flooded with cat images and videos, and there is certainly no shortage of cat art. However, most of what I see on the internet is awful -- cats in Napoleon hats, nauseatingly cute colour drawings, cheap copies of photographs, and so on. In my search for good cat art, I have only come across a handful of artists who are capable of depicting these wonderful creatures in a way that isn't offensively kitsch.
I believe that there's a shortage of quality depictions of cats: original paintings on canvas or paper, as opposed to prints, created by an artist, not an anonymous manufacturer. Paintings that combine skilfulness, soul and a unique style.
So I decided to launch Catelier: an atelier of beautiful and tasteful cat paintings which faithfully depict the animal's personality without being a copy of a photograph.
I invite you to look at the gallery and, if you are looking for an original, tasteful painting with a bit of quirk and flair, commission a portrait of your furry friend!

- Who is behind Catelier?
- I'm a figurative painter trained at Central Saint Martins in London and Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Poland. In 2022 I moved to The Hague in Netherlands and live with two adorable cats and a software architect. I am ponderous, adventurous and sentimental. I listen to French radio, collect vintage pottery, and enjoy long baths. You can find out more about me and see my main painting work here.
I have always loved cats and have shared different stages of my life with 7 different furry companions. Naturally, I have spoiled them all. I am the annoying person on a trip who's slowing everyone down because they're incapable of crossing the street without attempting to stroke a cat if they see one.
Painting cats is as fun as it can get. And seeing the owner's reaction to the portrait just tops it all.
